Guide: How to Rent Property in Spain
Renting property in Spain follows Spanish rules that may differ from what you're used to. Whether you're looking for a two-week holiday let or a home for the next year, here's what you need to know about Spanish rental contracts, rights and prices.
Short-term vs. long-term rental
Short-term rental (turista/vacacional) is rental under 3 months — typically a holiday stay. Not covered by the general tenancy law. Pricing is free and everything is agreed in the contract.
Long-term rental (arrendamiento) over 1 year is governed by the Ley de Arrendamientos Urbanos (LAU). As a tenant, you have the right to stay for up to 5 years even if the contract was shorter. Strong tenant protection.
